Cactus & Succulent Society of
Queensland Inc.
Welcome to the Cactus and Succulent Society of Queensland Inc. (CSSQ)

The Society was formed in 1963 with the view to encourage and educate hobbyists in the cultivation of cacti and other succulent plants. History gives a more detailed story of the Society and you can Contact the Society easily.

Membership is open to anyone with an interest in cacti and other succulents.  You can download an Application Form or contact The Secretary or Membership Steward for one to be posted to you.
Membership grants one access to all meeting activities, access to the Society’s library, the quarterly journal ‘Dinteranthus’, field day visits to members’ collections and occasionally bus trips to remote members’ collections.

Meetings are held at the Woolloongabba Senior Citizens Centre, 22 Qualtrough St., Woolloongabba, Brisbane on the last Monday of each month (except December) starting at 7.45p.m. Visitors are most welcome to attend. The Society provides a light supper and the program for the evening consists of cultural notes, plant competition, lucky door and plant raffles, plant sales and occasionally slides, lectures by guest speakers or special
round-robin information nights.

Our Committee is a dedicated group of members who oversee the direction of the Society and planning of its numerous events, including meetings, bus-trips, field-days and public shows. Office bearers and the Committee are elected at each Annual General Meeting in February.

Dinteranthus is the Societies’ journal published in February, May, August and November. It keeps members up to date with any meeting program changes, scheduled Field days to member’s collections, reports of these field days, other C & S shows, and contains articles written by members about plants, overseas trips, book reviews, library information, shows and any other relevant information.

The Society holds an Annual Show on the Saturday and Sunday of the Queen’s Birthday long-weekend in June at the Mt. Coot-tha Botanical Gardens Auditorium. This show is open to the public and hosts a very large display of cacti and succulent specimens, the CSSQ Inc. annual competition and a huge sales area filled with plants grown and propagated by our members.

Succulenticon 2014 is being hosted by the CSSQ Inc. This will be the 23rd Australasian
Cactus and Succulent Convention. It is a biennial event bringing together collectors, growers, hobbyists with local and international guest speakers. Planning for this is underway and this page will be updated as more information becomes available.

Field Days organized by the Society are visits to our members’ collections. Bus trips to remote members’ collections are occasionally organized. Field days are normally restricted to Members only but Non Members could arrange to attend by contacting the Society.

You can Buy Plants from many of our members who grow and propagate cacti and succulents as part of their hobby. Some members sell at local markets, others by mail order with sales lists that can be downloaded, and some allow pre-arranged visits to their collections.

Our Gardening page has been put together using the experience of our members who use these plants to landscape their gardens. This page will also be updated as more information becomes available.

There are many Other Societies around Australia with their own websites detailing their membership, meetings and other relevant information. If you do not live in Queensland this page could be very helpful to you.

Our Useful Links page offers access to a myriad of other specialist societies, overseas seed suppliers and Societies and much more.

We hope these pages are both helpful and enjoyable and would like to take the
opportunity to thank you for visiting our website and look forward to contact from interested parties.
